Barnes Camp Visitor Center is closed for the fall season! Thank you to the many GMC volunteers and Vermont State Parks staff that operate the facility Thursday – Monday, Memorial Day to Indigenous Peoples’ Day. They contributed a total of 750 volunteer hours and provided more than 8,000 visitors with information on hiking trails, cultural and historical landmarks and area attractions.
Barnes Camp is located right on the Long Trail in Smugglers' Notch, so it's popular with out-of-state visitors, day hikers, and thru-hikers alike. Volunteers often go above and beyond to make visitors' experience special. Volunteer Robert Widger shared these photos of a 90-degree-plus day earlier this summer, as hikers helped themselves to the cold drinks and ice Robert brought for their relief.
