It's hot out there this weekend. And the last thing you want to experience while hiking on a hot day is not enough water.
It's not uncommon for springs and other water sources along the Long Trail to dry up due to lack of precipitation. Most recently, we've had reports of a dry spring at Round Top Shelter near Johnson.
Avoid an emergency situation by packing enough water, loading up on water when you do see it (and treating it before you drink!), and checking your map to see if other sources might be nearby.
Come across a dry spring? Report it to our Visitor Center staff (gmc@greenmountainclub.org), or check in with them while planning your trip.
