Hi Folks!
I want to take a minute to address the way the RBCC feels about drag. Drag has been on the frontlines of the LGBTQ+ fight for equality since the beginning. There are many legendary drag Queens that have put their lives on the line to raise the banner of civil liberties, freedom of expression, and inclusive love. Drag is exuberant joy and vibrant creativity. It’s also struggle, sacrifice, and perseverance. It has an enduring purpose in the world and a special place in our hearts. The RBCC knows the value of drag and acknowledges the responsibility we have when hosting a show. The RBCC stands for dignity, humanity, and unencumbered LGBTQ+ joy. We vow to create shows that reflect that. Be empowered. Dance. Laugh ‘til you cry. And join us in celebrating drag!
Now I’d like to make some space for a Queen’s own words. Please read what our lead Queen, Luci Furr-Matrix, has to say:
“Drag performers have served as the cheerleaders for the LGBTQIA+ community for decades. We have always been the first to help organize and/or host a fundraising event when one is needed, not only for our community, but for any charity in need. Charity work has always been the backbone of why so many of us participate in the art of drag, and we will continue to lend our talents and support whenever needed. For a lot of drag performers, we became the strong and powerful superheroes we envisioned as kids, even if it is just for a few hours at a time. Any moment that we inspire someone of any age to feel acceptance, joy, love, or excitement, we are doing our jobs. So many moments in our lives are plagued with doubt, fear, sadness, & anger. We take so much of life so seriously, that we forget to remember what it was like to be a kid, to play dress up and be silly and pretend that everything is perfect, even if for just a few minutes. Drag artists help keep that spirit alive and remind us to just have fun sometimes. My focus with all shows involving drag performers with the RBCC, will be to uplift our community and to create a fun and welcoming environment for everyone. Now, more than ever, we need to uplift and support one another, and I’m really excited to be a part of the RBCC in this next chapter.”
Thank you All! And thank you, Luci!
