Loon floating on waterRetired veterinarian Dr. Scott MacLacklan will share his many years of working with loons at the Poultney Library on July 29. Dr. MacLackan first encountered loons in 1979 as a biologist for the Loon Preservation Committee at New Hampshire Audubon, where he documented loon nesting on waters north of the White Mountains. He sought the reason for the decline of loon populations and to find and implement a solution if possible. Subsequently he has worked with loons while in veterinary school, as a practicing veterinarian, and with the Vermont Loon Project.

After graduating from Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine he established his own veterinary practice in Poultney, Vermont. His wildlife interests have led to side projects as referral surgeon for the VINS raptor center for 28 years and as surgeon for the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Timber Rattlesnake Project.

Sharing his enthusiasm and knowledge, he has taught at Poultney Elementary School, Keewaydin Environmental Camp, continuing education conferences, and as an adjunct professor at Green Mountain College.

This presentation is co-sponsored by the Poultney Library and Rutland County Audubon. It will start at 7pm at the library (205 Main St, in Poultney), 802-287-5556. PREREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED DUE TO LIMITED SEATING: PPL555622@yahoo.com.
