Capture

Poultney Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on April 5.

The Poultney Fish and Game Club received an award from the Poultney Area Chamber of Commerce during Maplefest 2022.  The club was chosen as the Citizen of the Year for 2021 last October, but the actual ceremony was delayed by hunting season and other issues.

The club was awarded a beautiful engraved slate clock, donated by Sheldon Slate, with the inscription “Poultney Fish and Game Club, Citizen of the Year 2022.  The Poultney Fish and Game Club works to provide outdoor activities and learning about the environment, its wildlife, and the Vermont laws, including holding events like the Kids Fishing Derby and the Frosty Derby.

The Poultney Fish and Game Club has been active since the 1940’s, with current members carrying on Vermont’s tradition of outdoor activity, including hunting and fishing.  It is one of the oldest such clubs in Vermont.

Jim Marcheland, President of the club, accepted the award from Chamber board member Nancy Liberatore and guest of honor Pattie McCoy, Vermont House Minority Leader.  He proudly displayed it to other members of the club attending the ceremony, and thanked the Chamber for the honor.

The Poultney Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award is given each year to a Poultney area citizen who has contributed to the betterment of the Poultney community, provided continuing outstanding service to the community, and who demonstrates the true spirit of service, qualities representing the finest ideals of citizenship in the Poultney area.

The award goes to “unsung heroes”:   people who selflessly volunteer to help others, not because they are paid, or for awards or recognition, but simply because they want to do it.  The Poultney Area Chamber of Commerce salutes the Poultney Fish and Game Club for its long years of service to the community!

Poultney Area Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to forming partnerships that will move Poultney forward. We’re pleased to partner with NYVT Media and Lakeside News & the Rutland Sun to help spread the word on what’s happening as our town adapts and grows
