BURLINGTON, Vt., – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) tomorrow on Tuesday, June 27 will be visiting Windham County. He will hold a press conference to announce a significant federal investment to expand primary health care capabilities in the southern part of the state. Sanders will also host a roundtable discussion with Brattleboro area veterans and a meeting with high school students taking part in summer programming through the Governor’s Institutes of Vermont (GIV).

At 11:00 a.m., Sanders will speak with Vermont students participating in GIV’s Global Issues & Youth Action Institute. GIV hosts eight summer institutes across the state for high school students, including Health & Medicine, Arts, and Entrepreneurship. Sanders secured a Fiscal Year 2023 federal earmark to help make sure cost was not a barrier to participation in GIV programs.

At 12:30 p.m., Sanders will hold a press conference to announce and discuss the expansion of North Star Health – the Federally Qualified Health Center in Springfield – into the Brattleboro community. With $4,220,000 secured by Sanders through the Fiscal Year 2023 Congressionally Directed Spending process, North Star Health is working on plans to integrate with Windham County Dental Center near the campus of Brattleboro Memorial Hospital allowing the facility to expand care to 1,500 to 3,500 new patients. With the funding, North Star Health will be working to renovate existing, or build new facilities in Windham County to provide much-needed primary medical and behavioral health care services, allowing an additional 1,500 to 2,500 Vermonters to access care.

Sanders will also visit the Brattleboro VA Clinic where he will hear directly from Vermont veterans during a roundtable discussion at the clinic.
