The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is urging Vermont residents to shop at local small businesses during Small Business Saturday and the upcoming holiday season. The event, which follows Thanksgiving, is scheduled for November 29.

“Vermont is a small business state, and the holiday season is a crucial time for supporting Main Street,” said John Reynolds, NFIB Vermont State Director. “Ninety-seven percent of all businesses in Vermont have fewer than 20 employees. When Vermonters shop local, it keeps more of their hard-earned money in their community and helps these businesses thrive.”

Recent data from NFIB’s October Small Business Economic Trends report shows that small business owners are facing challenges. A net negative 13% of owners reported higher nominal sales over the past three months, representing a six-point decrease compared to September.
