Ages 6+ with an adult

Just in time for Halloween – in this two-day workshop we will create half-face masks. In the first session we will talk about what makes a good mask and participants will form the mask using plaster cloth. People should come to the workshop as a pair – one adult with one child (ages 6 and up), or two older children working together. Creating the mask is a two-person process – the adult will form the plaster mask on their child’s head and face to fit them perfectly. This plaster base becomes your blank canvas to create your unique mask, bringing your child’s Halloween ideas to life. The second session will be used to paint and add details to the mask. The Southern Vermont Art Center will provide acrylic paints and families are welcome to bring any additional materials they want to use in their masks. Come to the workshop with an idea already in mind, or take inspiration from masks that I will bring to share. There will be time in class to create one mask.

Polly Stone is a teacher and an artist, though not usually a teacher of art. Her artwork has been shown in a variety of galleries and venues. She has been creating masks for many years and looks forward to sharing this process with others.
